Jasmine Thai Restaurant
gets high marks from us because the food is just so incredibly
flavorful. It's addictive to the point that you will find yourself
craving it all over again the next day! Really, it's that good. The red
curry duck is one of our favorite items here, and we really love their
spicy fried rice too. The Bangkok pasta is one of the more unique
dishes on the menu and one that we have not found elsewhere, and we
also love to start things off with their tom yum soup. Note that pad se
ewew is labeled pad ba-mee here, and though the name's different, it's
the same thing and it's very good! They've got very nice chicken
teriyaki here though that's something you'd expect at a Chinese
restaurant rather than a Thai restaurant, but they do it right!
Everything on the menu is superb, and the service is too. Just a great
place to dine any night of the week! 1330 Niagara Falls Blvd Tonawanda, NY 14150 (716) 838-3011
Ted's Hot Dogs...
yes, it's another essential hot dog place in New York! There are so
many, but this one would be near the top of our list. They serve
Sahlen's hot dogs here, and that kind of quality is what brings us back
time after time. It's totally old school style, chargrilled perfectly,
piled high with whatever dressings you request. We suggest trying the
special relish, because it's just the perfect complement to those
perfectly chargrilled dogs. We love their french fries and onion rings
here, and they're made to order, which is unusual nowadays. They've got
Loganberry too! Watching them cook everything up is always fun. Great
place to go with the family, especially if you have kids! 2312 Sheridan Dr Tonawanda, NY 14150 (716) 834-6287
Saigon Bangkok
is of course an elegant combination of Vietnamese food and Thai food,
and that is a combination that we can never resist. The tom yum soup is
truly the best that we have ever had, made with real tamarind rather
than the usual lemon or lime, to give it extra authenticity and its own
special flavor. They've got a wonderful lemongrass red curry dish
(sorry that the name fails us right now!) that we've enjoyed several
times and it's really wonderful. The green vegetable curry is also a
real pleasure, and we love the summer rolls here too. The pho is also
legendary, as you might expect! If you're really wanting
something that's both light and healthy and yet superbly delicious, the
ginger scallions with beef is an excellent choice. The service here has
always been very friendly and the ambiance is ery nice but not
overdone. Recommended! 512 Niagara Falls Blvd Tonawanda, NY 14223 (716) 837-2115
Old Man River
is a classic hot dog joint on Niagara Street. It's instantly
recognizable by that wavy awning, and it just makes you want to run
right up and order a couple of dogs whatever way you like! The sweet
potato fries are also a big attraction here, and they're wonderful with
butter and honey on them! They've got Loganberry here too, which is of
course a major plus. One of the most unique things here is the "Bunny
Dog" which is a marinated grilled carrot in a bun with whatever fixings
you want on top. It sounds like it wouldn't be good, but believe us, it
is! Back to the regular hot dogs, they are perfectly chargrilled just
the way you like them, with all that old fashioned flavor that you'd
expect! Don't miss this excellent place, it's a summertime essential! 375 Niagara St. Tonawanda, NY 14150 (716) 693-5558
Texas Roadhouse
is a chain restaurant, which we normally don't recommend because
everybody is already familiar with them, but this is a favorite of ours
in the Tonawanda area, on Young Street, and we didn't feel right about
leaving it off the list. The steaks are just wonderful, and we
typically opt for a ribeye or a prime rib. You cannot beat the flavor.
They also have great barbecued chicken here for those who aren't big on
steak, and great Caesar salad for those who want something a little
lighter. The deep fried pickles are our favorite appetizer here, and we
really enjoy the rolls too. The ambiance is casual and cool, and the
service is always friendly and fast. Great margaritas here too, and
those make such a perfect pairing for the steaks! Very highly
recommended even if it is a chain restaurant! 900 Young St Tonawanda, NY 14150 (716) 692-0457
Dibella's Old Fashioned Subs
is a real throwback of the best kind. We enjoy the truly old school
subs that they serve here, piled so high that they'd be good enough for
Blondie's beau Dagwood. We love the interior here too, with plenty of
seating for those who wish to dine in, and rich mahogany furniture
that's such a stark contrast to the typical submarine restaurants of
today. The bread that we love the best here is the old fashioned
sesame, and we love the Godfather sub with salami, capicola, and spicy
ham. They've got horseradish, which is great, and they also have
DiBella's Famous Oil Dressing, so you can really go for that old
fashioned quality in the dressings as well! The prices are quite
reasonable here, and since a small sub is perfect for one, and a large
sub can feed four, you can really save some dough by splitting a large
between you and your friends! Just an awesome sandwich shop that we
could not leave off this list... one of our very highest
recommendations ever. 1420 Niagara Falls Blvd Tonawanda, NY 14150 (716) 332-0701
Spicy Thai Restaurant...
Dare we put a third Thai restaurant on this list? Yes, I think we will.
We're sure we're not the only ones who are addicted to all the great
Thai food that can be found in this area, and Spicy Thai Restaurant
definitely has a fair share of that market. The food is just superb
here, especially the pad se ewew and the gang kari yellow curry. That
coconut milk makes it so irresistible, and the flavor of the yellow
curry combined with the texture of those perfectly cooked potatoes
really makes for the perfect meal. They've got a wonderful lunch buffet
here that you will definitely want to take advantage of in the middle
of your hard work week. If you like your food spicy, don't go with
medium or hot, order it Thai Hot. That's the consensus among everyone
we know! Try the papaya salad as an appetizer and the banana
combination for dinner. That's coconut ice cream with banana coins.
Very good! 2865 Sheridan Dr Tonawanda, NY 14150 (716) 831-3921
Johns Pizza and Subs
is another sub shop that we have frequented many times when we're in
the Tonawanda area, and it really is fantastic. Among our friends it's
best known for the steak-n-ring sub and the original chicken finger
sub! They're very good. This place claims to have invented the chicken
finger pizza, and though we can't verify that claim, we can verify that
they do it very well! That original chicken finger sub is super
spicy but there's a lot of bleu cheese poured on to cool it off for
you, and it's all served on a delicious Constanzo's sub roll. Mmm!
Everything that they offer here is fantastic, from the pizza to the
subs to the service! Come on in next time you're in Tonawanda and find
out what you've been missing! Simple and good, just the way it should
be. 1436 Niagara Falls Blvd Tonawanda, NY 14150 (716) 832-4343
Mississippi Mudds
is a great spot to go for burgers, hot dogs, and ice cream! A real
tradition on Niagara Street. The line is sometimes ridiculously long
here, but you know that's a sign of something worth waiting for.
They've got wonderful sweet potato fries that are some of the best we
have ever had. Go with butter and honey for your toppings and you'll
really fall in love with them. The chicken sandwiches are very good
too! One of the major perks of choosing this place to eat in the summer
is that it's got a beautiful view, as well as an air conditioned
interior, and covered outdoor seating as well. When you're in this area
you have got to know where the best hot dogs are, and the previously
mentioned spot (Old Man River) as well as this one are our two faves! 313 Niagara St Tonawanda, NY 14150 (716) 694-0787
Athena's Family Restaurant
is an excellent Greek restaurant located on Young Street. This is diner
style food at its very best. Breakfast is the best time to come in here
and enjoy a really huge and satisfying meal. The Greek Scramble
is our favorite thing on the menu, with the unique fillings of gyro
meat and feta cheese! So good. We really love the souvlaki here too,
filled with delicious grilled chicken and feta cheese. On Fridays you
can come in and enjoy their fried haddock. The service is very good
here, and extremely quick, so if you're in a rush this is a great place
to go. Always a good time here, and definitely one of the quickest
stops for a truly satisfying meal in the Tonawanda area! 729 Young St Tonawanda, NY 14150 (716) 692-2626
